The word plastic in plastic surgery means "reshaping" and comes from the Greek πλαστική (τέχνη), plastikē (tekhnē), "the art of modelling" of malleable flesh. Plastic surgery is ancient old.
Sage Sushruta was first plastic surgeon of world who reconstructed nose. In India, Plastic surgery is a first branch of superspeciality medicine and first superspeciality department in India was started in Government Medical Collage of Nagpur by father of modern plastic surgery, Dr. Balakrishnan.
Taking this legacy forward, association of Plastic surgeons of Central Nagpur was formed in 1998 with moto of imparting knowledge and creating brotherhood among the colleagues.
We started with 11 members in 1998 and today we are more than 35 strong active members and still counting.
First President Dr. L. K. Sharma, then Dr. C.S Vaidya Eventually Dr. Rajan Bhiwapurkar, Dr. Ratan Saboo, Dr. Jitendra Mehta as Presidents.
Dr. Sudhanshu Kothe, was first secretary ran the association as Honorary Secretary for 18 years. Then handed over to new office bearers.
Then on, Presidents were, Dr. Syed Ilyas, Dr. Shailesh Nisal, Dr. Sudhanshu Kothe, Dr. Surendra Patil HOD GMCH.
CIAPS became a registered organization with the Charity Commissioner on 5th January 2022.
Now we have Dr. Sameer Jahagirdar as President, Dr. Suresh Chaware as Vice President, Dr. Dhanjay Nakade as Hon. Secretary, Dr. Manish Zade as Joint Secretary, Dr. Parikshit Janai as Treasurer.
Executive Members are Dr. Amol Patel, Dr Pawan Shahane, Dr Tarun Deshbhratar, Dr. Gaurav Jannawar, Dr. Pranam Sadawartem, Dr. Shrikant Perka.
We conducted Many conferences, with highest level of exchange of scientific information.
We conducted the APSI course in 2013.
MAPS CME in 2015.
In covid times, a large number of webinars were conducted.
As medical science is Evidence based medicine, Since all can't do rigorous research, exchange of information is of paramount importance.
Multiple activities for all Plastic Surgeons to remain connected.
To establish platform for the Plastic surgeons of central India to come together for propagation of plastic surgery faculty in Central India.
To facilitate continuous medical education for plastic surgeons of central India.
To create awareness about plastic surgery among masses.
To arrange, initiate and promote health camps, blood donation camps, plastic surgery camps for the general public.
